Supratman (9 March [1] 1903, Jatinegara, Jakarta - August 17, 1938, Surabaya)
Indonesia is the author of the national anthem, "Indonesia Raya". His
father was named Monday, sergeant in Battalion VIII. Soepratman of six
siblings, one male, the other female. One of them named Roekijem. In 1914,
Soepratman Roekijem come to Makassar. There he was schooled and financed by the
husband Roekijem named Willem van Eldik.
Soepratman then learn the Dutch language at night school for 3 years, and then
proceeded to Normaalschool in Makassar to completion. When he was 20 years old,
and made teachers at School Number 2. Two years later he received a diploma
Klein Ambtenaar.
Some time he worked for a trading company. From Ujungpandang, he moved to
London and worked as a journalist. The work was still done while already living
in Jakarta. In the meantime, he became interested in the nationalist movement
and a lot of hanging out with figures of the movement. Resentment against Dutch
colonialism started to grow and eventually of the book Virgin Village. The book
was confiscated and banned by the Dutch government.
Soepratman Singkang moved to town. There was not long ago quit and returned to
Makassar again. Roekijem, itself is very fond of theater and music. Many of his
compositions were performed at a military mess. Besides Roekijem also loved to
play the violin, his love is what makes Soepratman also like playing music and
reading music books

While living in Makassar, Soepratman obtain music lessons from her brother-namely
Willem van Eldik, so good at playing the violin, and then get a song. When
living in Jakarta, at a time he read an article in a magazine Arise. Essay
writer challenged Indonesia's music experts to create a national anthem.
Soepratman challenged, and began composing songs. In 1924 was born the song
Indonesia Raya.
In
Held in October 1928 in Jakarta Youth Congress II. Congress gave birth to the
Youth Pledge. On the closing night of the congress, dated October 28, 1928,
Soepratman play his songs are instrumental in front of the public participants
(both instrumental with violin on the advice Soegondo related Events and

first time Indonesia Raya song was played in public. Captivated all present to
hear it. Instantly the song was popular among nationalist movement. If the

After Indonesia's independence, the song made the national anthem Indonesia
Raya, a symbol of unity of the nation. However, the creator of the song, Wage
Roedolf Soepratman, no time to enjoy life in an atmosphere of freedom.
As a result of creating the song Indonesia Raya, he always hunted by the police
the Dutch East Indies, until he fell ill in Surabaya. Since the last of his
songs "Sunrise" in early August 1938, he was arrested when the
broadcast song with scout-scout on the street Nirom Embong Malang - Surabaya
and detained in prison Kalisosok-Surabaya. He died on August 17, 1938 due to
illness.
The original of the song Indonesia Raya
Soepratman birthday, March 9, by Megawati as president of Indonesia, was
inaugurated as the National Music Day. However, the actual date of birth is
disputed, as there is an opinion stating Soepratman was born on March 19, 1903
in Hamlet Trembelang, Somongari Village, District Kaligesing, Purworejo
regency, Central Java. This opinion is - in addition to the family supported
Soepratman - upheld the District Court's decision Purworejo on March 29, 2007.
